1. Frequently Asked Questions

How are prayer times calculated?

Hilal uses your device's location to mathematically calculate prayer times based on your chosen calculation method (e.g. MWL, ISNA, Umm al-Qura). All calculations happen locally on your device.

Why is the Qibla compass inaccurate?

Make sure your device's compass is calibrated. Move your iPhone in a figure-8 motion to recalibrate. Also ensure there are no magnets or electronic devices nearby that could interfere.

How do I change the prayer calculation method?

Go to Settings in the app and select your preferred calculation method and madhab (Hanafi/Shafi'i) for Asr time calculation.

Can I use the app without location access?

Yes! If you deny location access, the app defaults to Makkah. You can also manually search and set your city.

Why am I not receiving notifications?

Make sure notifications are enabled in both the app settings and your iPhone's Settings β†’ Notifications β†’ Hilal. Also check that Do Not Disturb or Focus mode isn't blocking them.

How do I reset my fasting tracker?

Your fasting data is stored locally. To reset everything, you can delete and reinstall the app, or use iOS Settings β†’ Hilal β†’ Clear Data if available.

Does the app work offline?

Yes! Prayer times, Qibla direction, fasting tracker, and Hijri calendar all work offline. Quran text is bundled with the app as a fallback. An internet connection is only needed for additional translations.

Is my data synced to the cloud?

No. All your data stays on your device. We don't operate any servers or databases. See our Privacy Policy for details.
